About GIS In Ecology

GIS In Ecology was established in 2011 by Dr. Colin MacLeod in response to an apparent need to provide books, training and advice on using GIS in a manner which is specifically-tailored towards ecologists.

Throughout a decade of using GIS in his own research (see case studies for some examples), teaching students and colleagues, and running GIS training courses, Dr. MacLeod has developed a detailed knowledge of what ecologists need to know to get started, and how to train ecologists who do not have a background in GIS how to do the types of tasks that need to know in order to successfully use it in their research.

GIS In Ecology uses this experience as the basis for teaching GIS to ecologists in our books, training courses and online GIS support. In addition, we can provide advice tailored to specific circumstances, as well as a GIS consultancy service for those who wish to use GIS in their research, but who do not have the time to learn it themselves (because, after all, we re all busy people).

We also provide an online forum where ecologists can ask questions and discuss issues specifically related to using GIS in ecology.

For more information on our services, please click on the relevant buttons on the left-hand side of this window, and feel free to email us at info@GISinEcology.com if you have any further questions.

However, please remember that the availability to provide specific services will depend on our own availability. We are a small business and we are also still active in our own ecological research. This means that in order to ensure that we provide the best possible service to our clients, we can only take on a relatively small number at any one time.
