Contributing Data To The Digital Beaked Whale Atlas (DBWA)

 

Links To Polygon Grids For Reporting Different Types Of Information:

If you wish to process your own data before submitting it to the Digital Beaked Whale Atlas, you will need to download and use at least one of the following reporting grids.  Instructions for using the first four grids to report records of individual species can be found here, while instructions for using the final grid to report beaked whale survey effort can be found here.

1. Sightings Reporting Grid: This polygon grid is used to report the presence of beaked whale sightings of a specific species in specific 0.5 degree grid cells.  To download this a zipped file containing this data layer, right-click here and select SAVE TARGET AS.

2. Strandings Reporting Grid: This polygon grid is used to report the presence of beaked whale strandings records of a specific species in specific 0.5 degree grid cells.  To download this a zipped file containing this data layer, right-click here and select SAVE TARGET AS.

3. Bycatch Records Reporting Grid: This polygon grid is used to report the presence of beaked whale bycatch records of a specific species in specific 0.5 degree grid cells.  To download this a zipped file containing this data layer, right-click here and select SAVE TARGET AS.

4. Other Records Reporting Grid: This polygon grid is used to report the presence of beaked whale records of any other type (including whaling) of a specific species in specific 0.5 degree grid cells.  To download this a zipped file containing this data layer, right-click here and select SAVE TARGET AS.

5. Survey Effort Reporting Grid: This polygon grid is used to report the your survey effort for beaked whale in specific 0.5 degree grid cells.  To download this a zipped file containing this data layer, right-click here and select SAVE TARGET AS.
